I'd like to go to LA too someday, but first I'd have to get over my intense fear of flying.

If you do your research and everything, a trip to LA could be inexpensive. Just don't pick a 4 or 5 star hotel and expect to eat in fancy restaurants every night, lol. There are several things to do in the area that are free.

Is it possible to hop a train that goes from Rhode Island to California, or will I have to hop several trains to get there? As you know, I have a bad fear of flying in planes, for one, the plane could crash.

Air travel is the safest form of transportation; the odds of the plane crashing are incredibly slim. I was a little nervous of flying over the ocean to get to the UK a couple weeks ago, but everything went perfectly. But I know that's no consolation if you have an intense fear of something, lol. Maybe you should take a short plane ride the next time you go somewhere out of state, like from RI to NYC or some very short distance like that, just to see that everything will be fine.

To answer your question, there's no direct train service from RI to CA, and it would probably take 4 days to get there that way.
