I rewrote this song for Heather. I hope you all like my version for her (some verses are perfect in this case and remain the same as they are in the original song)

Goodbye, Heather O.
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
Even though you were so small;

And even you fell sick
You never once complained
Now you belong to heaven
Little star, shine away!

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Your illness was tough
But you never let on your pain
How unfair life was as we watched you slowly fade;

But even though you're gone
You live inside our hearts
So strongly and wholly
It's as though you didn't part:

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did!

February 1st
It was a Monday
You died that day
It was hard to accept that
Little Heather'd gone away;

But after all these years
You still have countless fans
Who'll always remember
You were more than Carol Anne;

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did!

That's very sweet. :( :wub:
It seems like that song can be applied to almost anyone who has passed on, especially young people, and people whose lives were full of promise.

Yes, I agree with you, Dawne. Thank goodness for Elton John and Bernie Taupin for creating such a classic. It chokes me up everytime I hear the orginal for Norma Jean Baker (Marylin Monroe) and the one adapted for Diana Spencer, Princess of Whales. I thought Heather should have her own version, too, as she was also "A Candle In The Wind" her whole short life. :(

Cool poem.At first I didn't know what song you were talking about,until you got to the verse about "I would've liked to have known you,but I was just a kid,the candle burned out long before,your legend ever did........", and that is true,this song can be applied to anyone who died before their time,who died so young,when they had only lived just a short time,and their lives seemed to have such potential.Well,got to run,just thought I'd give my 2 cents on this,thanks!

-Will,a huge Heather fan!

I love the poem. And I sat there and actually listened to the song as I read it, lol, every word went with the music perfectly. You did a good job.
We miss you so much Heather!

That's really good, Celia. It's been awhile since I've heard the orginal song but your lyrics brought it back. Not too much poetry moves me but that one did.

If no-one objects, I'm going to try to do a slide show of photographs with an instrumental version of "Candle in the Wind" for Heather.

Trying to find an instrumental version of the song will be the only difficult part.

Regards,

Merlin100.

Hi Celia,

As promised, I've done another tribute video for Heather and credited you with the idea.

It's an instrumental version of "Candle in the Wind". I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I'm sure Heather would be proud!

Regards,

Merlin100 (Ian).
