Hi ,
I was talking with my mum about the mistery around Heather's death.
Then my mum began to talk about something really crazy.
She said that , a couple of years ago, she watched an interview on tv with Heather.
Now my mum said that Heather said (omg , i'm getting confused)
that she knew she was gonna die before she reached the age of 12.
Do you , or anyone else on this site know something about that interview?
I searched the whole internet but i didn't find it.
You would do me a great pleasure if you would have , or look for an answer on this...
Because i'm really curious.
Thanks already!
:)
Greetz,
Dark Crystal

I don't think she knew. The loss of the castmembers of Poltergeist and the stories of the movies that she was playing in ( P2, Surviving ) created a discussion about death in her family. It's something everyone has to talk about. She was certain that the doctors would be able to cure her. The death surprised her like all of us. :(

About the death of other cast fellows you mentioned there, do you know what was her reaction, if she ever demonstrated it?

I would be happy if at least she didn't feel a great fear, or she thought she could meet them all...

Well, Dark Crystal, I've heard of know such interview where she said exactly the words "I'm gonna die before or when I'm 12" BUT her mom, Kathleen did say in the E! True Hollywood Story: The Curse of Poltergeist that Heather did start to talk about her own demise shortly before she actually died. She told her mom if anything ever happened to her, she'd want to be buried with her Dumbo stuffed animal.

"It's almost like she knew," Kathleen concluded.

My personal opinion is that, yes, Heather felt inside that she was going to die young, but she didn't know exactly when she was going to die...and really, what kid dwells on that anyway? She really didn't talk about it except for that one occassion mentioned above because I feel she didn't want to scare anyone close to her or bring them down so she kept quiet and beared the burden and knowledge herself (so like her).

BUT...

Can we really know for certain she that she knew? The answer is no. We simply cannot.

I hope that helps you and answers your question a bit more.

Hey, that's really startling  !!: she knew she was gonna die and accepted it with poise :o ? I don't either think she knew it for sure. Otherwise, what about the "built-in survival instinct" we all have? Couldn't she explain the doctors that something was terribly wrong with her and they were just terribly incompetent to diagnose it correctly? I don't think she was gonna fulfill a mystical mission or anything like that: it's just too unfair. She had to live here, there is time enough to rejoin her deceased cast fellows...

Wel think about it....If she went to the Doctors and told them she knew she was gonna die then they would stare at her for a really long time. And most likly not belive her.

Exactly. It could've been just a vague feeling. She wouldn't have known when or even how.

Well, she didn't have 2 tell 'em she was dyin': only that she felt really bad and medicines for flu and/or Chron's disease didn't really make a full effect. I suppose. She should have said then that the disease wasn't cured, and then it was up to them 2 find a new (& real) solution.

I agree with Celia completely and also with LiveWire. Plus - You have overlooked that she even knew shortly before her death. Do you remember that Mrs O'Rourke had said in the interview that Heather said that she won't come back? This is a sign for me that she had the feeling that her time had come. And by the researches of "Elisabeth Kübler Ross" one knows that children have a very good feeling for it, what is happening with them.

Take care.

Well, that was actually an apparition Kathleen saw in Kaiser Permanente Hospital, according to the E! special prog. Maybe Heather said something about being buried with her Dumbo teddy  , perhaps cuz she saw other co-stars dying and though she wouldn't be free (I'd need to know the context).Tschüss. Bis bald!!

I don't think that Heather knew that she was going to die when she did. What she said about her Dumbo doesn't mean - To me - that she thought that she was going to die. It's that kind of stuff that kids and adults for that matter say when they know/ see / hear about something bad happening like a death, a serious accident, a disaster.
Maybe a kid at her school passed away, someone she know of that died that was her own age. Maybe she heard/read/saw about a kid's death from friends, news papers, tv, shool. Maybe something of that and she realised that death is real and could happen to her, that you never know when you're going to die.

When i was the same age as heather i wrote diaries, on the inside of the back cover i'have written what i would want to happen if i died. I didn't write that because i thought that i was going to die. I wrote it because of events happening around me. The death of a cousin ( she was a baby) and the suicide of a guy me age in the city i lived in....

I agree with whoever said kids know about that stuff. Its just an iner-knowing, like your intuition, children use their intuition more then adults do, because they don't really have much else to worry about, no job to worry over, no bills to pay etc, they are free and happy, and with that, comes a peace in your mind, with a peace in your mind comes......intuition. There are lots of books out there on all that stuff. Heather I think maybe had that feeling that she wasn't going to grow up. This may sound really really stupid, But if you believe in life after death like I do, then think about this, She came back to tell her mother she wasn't coming back, according to all those life after death books, in some situations when we still are techinically alive, like Heather was at that moment, we have a choice to come back into our bodies and continue to live, or go to heaven, or wherever it is instead. Heathers life would have been VERY difficult if she had of come back, there was no oxygen going to her brain, which would have left her brain dead in the short term, or brain damaged in the long term, she probably knew that, that either way, her life would never be the same, and she would forever rely on others to do the most simple tasks, so she made the choice of not coming back to earth, and going to heaven instead, would explain why she said "I'm not coming back" thats just my opinion though.

Ooh, you brought up some very good points there! WOW! I'm very impressed by your wisdom--very insightful! Thank you so much for those words! Oh, and by the way, it was Karsten who made the comment about children knowing about their own sufferings and deaths.
